Dr. Ira Zunin has been an international leader in integrative medicine for 30 years. He writes a regular column, “Wealth of Health” in the Honolulu Star Advertiser, and just published a book, The Practice of Freedom.
Dr. Zunin earned his medical degree from UCLA School of Medicine, completed a residency in Preventive Medicine and then a Master’s Degree in Public Health. He is Assistant Clinical Professor at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, Department of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. He spent several years studying Tibetan medicine, has trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine and was appointed by Governor Cayetano to the Hawai’i State Board of Acupuncture. Dr. Zunin has also conducted numerous solo medical missions focusing on India, Tibet, and Nepal.
A Hawai‘i waterman, he has served as a blue-water medical officer on four legs of Hokule‘a’s worldwide voyage: between Honolulu and New Zealand via Tahiti, from the Great Barrier Reef to the Indian Ocean, and most recently across the Atlantic from South Africa to Brazil. He has practiced both martial arts and yoga for over 40 years.
Dr. Zunin lives in Hawaii with family and is medical director of Manakai O Malama Integrative Clinic and Rehabilitation Center and CEO of Global Advisory Services, a consulting firm focused on re-imagining healthcare for the twenty-first century.
