Alan Akaka

Alan Akaka, a 2012 Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame inductee, performed for over forty years in Waikīkī. He has recorded with Hawaiʻi legends Genoa Keawe, Raiatea Helm, Kuana Torres Kahele, and more. Two of his recordings were Nā Hōkū Hanohano finalists. He considers my music “Hawaiian Swing, a mix of traditional Hawaiian and Hapa Haole music from the 1940s and 50s. He established Ke Kula Mele – School of Hawaiian Music and HIMELE a 501(c)(3) whose purpose is to educate, promote and perpetuate Hawaiian music and culture. HIMELE sponsors Hawaiian steel guitar festivals throughout the State.
